The Cheesemonger Box team is passionate about real food made with integrity by artisans who respect the land, the animals and their workers. The founders of Cheesemonger Box maintain direct relationships with small American farmers, creameries and cheesemakers nationwide and works with trusted importers and distributors to source authentic artisan and farmhouse-style European cheeses.
Cheesemonger Box was founded in 2017 by professional cheesemongers and longtime Connecticut residents Laura Downey and Chris Palumbo. Prior to launching Cheesemonger Box, Laura and Chris founded the acclaimed cheese shop Fairfield Cheese Company in 2009, followed by its sister shop, Greenwich Cheese Company, in 2014. Both of these shops were included in the Oxford Companion to Cheese, and Food & Wine named Fairfield Cheese Company one of America’s top five cheese shops in 2015.
Laura and Chris are deeply passionate about supporting American and European artisan and small batch cheesemakers and specialty food producers. They are both members of the American Cheese Society (ACS), the leading organization promoting and supporting cheese in North America, and are ACS Certified Cheese Professionals (ACS CCP). They are also members of Slow Food USA and the Vermont Cheese Council.
