FAQs

What is a cheesemonger?

The definition of the word, "cheesemonger" is someone who sells cheese. That of course is the simple definition of what we do. We sell cheese; but really our job is more complex than that. We act as the liaison between the producer and you the consumer, we tend to the cheese until its sold, and we advise and educate you so you can make the best choice possible. A true cheesemonger is passionate about cheese and should be able to recommend which cheeses pair well with which foods and wines, which cheese is at its peak and in-season, and the story behind the cheese.

When will my cheese arrive?

Great cheese takes time!

We ship our expertly-selected cheeses in the first and third weeks of every month.

To keep you in the loop, we’ll send you two emails once your order is placed. The first email will let you know that your box is being prepared for shipment. Once your order has shipped, we’ll send you a second email that includes your tracking number.

Your shipping date is also listed at the top of our Subscribe page upon signing in. Feel free to check in at anytime!

Which box should I get?

Every month, Cheesemonger Box brings three ½-pound cuts of cheese, carefully selected for you from the world's very best producers, right to your door in our Classic box.

The Signature box adds an artisan cracker and small-batch accompaniment such as a jam, spread or charcuterie - perfect for entertaining or adding a little something extra to your dinner. These extras change every month, but are always picked by expert cheesemongers to match your cheese delivery.

My package arrived and the ice pack isn't frozen. Is the cheese okay to eat?

Yes! The cheese is fine. Cheese is preserved food and is fine if not ice-cold. We include an ice pack to keep it cool in transit but some melting over time is normal.

I opened the box and it sure smells stinky. Is the cheese rotten?

No! Cheese in a box for a day or so can start to smell. Some cheeses more than others are just stinky. We recommend unpacking it and getting it into the refrigerator. It will be fine.

What is the best way to store my cheese?

Our cheese leaves Cheesemonger Box in specially-designed cheese paper which we recommend reusing. This paper protects the cheese but still allowing it to breathe. If the cheese paper becomes too tattered please wrap your cheese in wax or parchment paper and place in a plastic bag. Cheese hates plastic wrap and it will suffocate and deteriorate quickly if wrapped up in it.

How do I serve my cheese?

Cheese is best served at room temperature, so remove your cheese from the refrigerator at least one hour before you want to serve it. We like cheese with plain bread or crackers. Try it with some fresh fruit, dried fruits, unsalted nuts, chutney or honey. Try to provide a separate knife for each cheese so you don't mix the flavors together.

How long does cheese last?

That does depend on the cheese. Softer cheeses like Brie are best consumed within a week to about 10 days. Firmer cheeses like Cheddar, Gruyère and Parmesan Reggiano can be kept for several weeks. If you see a little green mold, just scrape it off and keep eating. It won't hurt you. We do however recommend you eat your cheese and avoid storing it!

Is my Cheesemonger Box packaging recyclable?

Yes! All Cheesemonger Box packaging is 100% recyclable.
